I was once cold calling a famous author.
I cold called the person home phone. The son answered the phone. The son asked, “Who is calling?” It appeared as though the son had been trained to screen calls. I responded by saying, “Please let him know that Eddie is calling.” I responded enthusiastically like an old friend saying it’s me, don’t you remember.
After a few minutes, I could hear them talking in the background. They were trying to figure out which Eddie was calling. The famous author came to the phone.
“Hi! This is Eddie, Mr. Famous Author. I really enjoyed your last event/book/movie/.” This real estate script will work for any famous person. Remember famous people are just like everyone else. They are going to need a real estate listing service.
As soon as the famous person came on the phone. I started with my no-resistant real estate script. The famous person and I had a great conversation with no resistance. We became buddies and he said, “You know, that most strangers who call do not get through to me.” But when my son Michael said to me, “Eddie is on the phone.” I thought maybe you were my old college friend. Had you given your last name or the name of your company? I would not have taken your call. But I am glad that we had the opportunity to talk. I am glad we did.
As he mentioned that one else had ever done that when calling. And he said he really liked the original approach. The lesson to learn here is that the real estate script was giving value. I was not trying to sell him sell him something, I was giving him valuable information about real estate that no just trying to get a listing appointment.
